\nThinking Schools International\u00a0collaborates with projects in various countries. All these schools take a whole-school approach to the teaching of thinking and share good practice, resources and expertise.\u00a0\u00a0Within the TSI website there is a\u00a0library of resources\u00a0available to all schools in the network.\u00a0There are currently over 400 schools in the United Kingdom that are part of the Thinking Schools network.\u00a0A major project is with the Malaysian Government where together the collaboration is aiming to have all\u00a0Malaysian schools\u00a0become thinking schools as part of a\u00a0national innovation strategy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\nThe UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA) was officially established by the UNESCO General Conference in October, 1999. Its establishment was part of UNESCO\u2019s drive to decentralize its functions. In particular IICBA expressed UNESCO\u2019s commitment to capacity building in Africa. IICBA is headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and presently has two nodes, one situated within the UNESCO Regional Office in Dakar, and the second one within Pretoria University, South Africa. Through these three centres IICBA provides services to some 20 countries.<\/p>\n

Ethiopia’s Progress in Education – ONE.org – 27 July 2011
\nKey Messages:
\n1. Access to education in Ethiopia has improved significantly. Approximately 3 million pupils were in primary school in 1994\/95. By 2008\/09, primary enrolment had risen to 15.5 million \u2013 an increase of over 500%.
\n2. Progress has been enabled through a sustained government-led effort to reduce poverty and expand the public education system equitably. This has been backed by substantial increases in national education expenditure and aid to the sector, as well as improved planning and implementation capacity at all levels.
\n3. Increased regional and local autonomy and community participation have also had a key role in expanding access to education across the country.

USAID to Launch Five-Year Ethiopian Education Endeavor
\n20 July 2011
\nA preliminary five-year plan to improve Ethiopia’s educational system was released today by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The draft Statement of Work (SOW) outlines what the agency expects to accomplish via the Reading for Ethiopia\u2019s Achievement Developed (READ) project, which seeks to improve the reading and writing skills of elementary school students.<\/p>\n

According to the draft SOW:\u00a0The overall program will have four components: curriculum improvement, pedagogical techniques, appropriate technology and teaching aids, and co\u2010curricular activity and community outreach. In addition, an evaluation project is expected to conduct mid\u2010term and final evaluations of the complete READ program to determine the impact of the program intervention.
